What’s in a name? The Royal baby edition

It’s been a week since the Prince of Cambridge arrived and whilst the whole world was edging their bets on the name of the latest royal baby from the popular choices of Alexander and Louis to the more unusual Winston and Rex, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge were (probably) retracing the family lines thinking up a name to suit their new arrival. I wonder if they had a list to choose from like we did or they were waiting to see what he looked like before deciding upon a name. It was inevitable really that he would have a very regal name; George Alexander Louis.

John Lewis have created a fun interactive infographic to celebrate the birth of the newest member of the Royal family. The infographic charts the most popular boys’ and girls’ names in England and Wales, compared to the most popular Windsor family names.

Are there any royal names in your family? There aren’t many in our family although we all do have quite British names such as Emma, Ronald and Molly. Do you think people will follow the trend for royal baby names this year? I think they will.

Having a baby requires months of planning, from buying new clothes, choosing the nursery furniture and not least of all, choosing a name. Check out this infographic charting the most popular boys’ and girls’ names in England and Wales, compared to the most popular Windsor family names.
