Yesterday was a big achievement day for Little Mr. At the tender age of 5 months old, he was awarded his first swimming badge and certificate yesterday at his swimming class. It’s a real fun half an hour in the pool, we sing nursery rhymes and splash about in the pool getting the babies water confident and learning new techniques to build the little ones up to actual swimming. It’s the small things like teaching your baby to grab at a toy in front of them and in time they will learn to grab the toy using their out stretched arms and put the wheels in motion of learning to swim front crawl. We’ve bought some little bath time squirting animals to play with so when we take Little Mr swimming he can practice grabbing for the toys. The water was really chilly yesterday so after the half hour was up it really was time to get out of the pool and get Little Mr warm.
I’m really glad I’ve pushed myself to take him swimming. I’m not a very confident swimmer but I can swim so that wasn’t an issue. I was more aware of people seeing me in a swimming costume that bothered me but I told myself to stop being so ridiculous and if people want to make comment about my flabby thighs and fat tummy then let them do that as they’re not going to have as much fun as I will when I’m playing with Little Mr in the pool and seeing his face light up when he sees his friends splashing around. It would be really selfish of me to not take him just because I was worried what someone would say and to be honest, no-ones actually said anything (well not to my face anyway!) so I shouldn’t worry.
Secondly, my very active all of a sudden Little Mr learnt to roll over yesterday. He’s been threatening to do it for weeks getting himself so far and then falling backward to where he started. He managed to roll over three times yesterday afternoon and he did get stuck on the first two occasions but managed to hoist himself back over for the third time. So I’ll be no longer able to leave him on the bed on his own or on the sofa for a nap as he’ll soon be rolling off and perfecting his rolling over skills.
Where is my little baby going? He’s getting taller every day and won’t be in his bouncer for much longer, his legs dangle over the edge and we’re glad of the warm weather so he can wear his shorts, t-shirts and rompers as his 3-6 sleepsuits and onesies were running out of room. His vests are getting a bit snug though. Looks like I’ll be doing a spot of shopping shortly…
