Review: Bumbo Floor Seat

I’m in no doubt that Little Mr is a nosey monkey. He loves looking at people and watching their facial expressions. He’ll turn his head to the direction of people talking if he hears them in the same room and he’ll happily sit on your lap and watch the bright colours on the television screen. He’s like a sponge soaking it all in until you need to put him down in his play gym and he doesn’t want to lie down, then we have meltdown. Luckily, the Bumbo Floor Seat allows him to sit unaided giving Mummy five minutes to make a hot cup of tea or a bite to eat.

We were sent the Bumbo Floor Seat to review and initially Little Mr was too small for it. His head was still a bit floppy and as the guidelines recommend that the product is suitable for use only when babies can hold their head up I knew it was a little too soon. Three weeks later (and at 13 weeks old) Little Mr was well away holding his head up and sitting proudly upright in the chair.

We were sent the bright green Bumbo Floor Seat to review and so far so good. The floor seat is suitable for any flat surface and is ideal on carpet or grass. Recently Bumbo have introduced a new 3 point safety harness to the seat to prevent babies falling out of the seat and causing themselves harm. In my opinion, I would never leave a child unattended in the seat for fear of him having a wobble and toppling over. The safety harness is an excellent idea yet I found it to be fiddly to fasten and unfasten when the baby is sitting in the seat. Perhaps it takes practice and I’m still learning.

The seat is incredibly soft yet sturdy and promotes an excellent upright sitting position for babies. Little Mr did slouch a few times so we took him out of the seat and tried it again a few days later. It is quite lightweight and portable making it an ideal baby seat for around the home.

We also got sent the Play Tray which attaches to the front of the Bumbo. This is ideal for teaching young babies their hand co-ordination skills when grabbing their toys and will be perfect for messy mealtimes as the tray is within easy reach for baby and very easy to clean.

I’m not sure how long Little Mr will be able to sit in it comfortably as at 15 weeks and roughly 15lb it’s a snug fit. I’m hoping we’ll be able to get another 3 or 4 months use out of it at least. Overall, we’re really happy with our Bumbo. It’s a product that I would recommend to friends and family and can’t wait to start using it for mealtimes.

We’ve been given a Bumbo by my brother in law :) They used it for both of their daughters and I remember being amazed at how much their eldest (then about 5 months old) would wriggle and rock in the chair but would never once look like she was coming out of it or about to tip it over. That was 4 years ago and I’ve been sold on Bumbos since!

If you’ve been given a Bumbo, it might not have the strap fitted but you can ring them up for a strap (01271 336155) one of the ladies in my birth group had an old one for her daughter so rang up for the safety harness to be sent out to her for her son xx
