On Saturday I was invited to a very exciting blogger workshop in a rather funky hotel in Central London with the supermarket, Aldi. The workshop was brilliant and now I can tell you all about it. Aldi, had invited me and several other Mummy bloggers to hear all about their upcoming Mother and Baby in-store events and to learn all about their Mamia range of products. I was really excited by the invitation as my Mum had bought us some Mamia nappies and wipes to try before Little Mr was born and I have used some of their products since his arrival and have been really impressed.
The event started at 11am so hubby, Little Mr and I caught a very early train from Birmingham down to the capital. I won’t lie, I was nervous! I’m very new to the mummy blogger scene and I knew that I was going to an event with established bloggers so I was quite anxious. I’d tweeted that I was nervous earlier in the week and Ryan, from the blog Transatlantic Blonde who was guest speaker at the event, had reassured me that my fellow bloggers were lovely and I didn’t need to worry.
As soon as I arrived, my worries faded and I actually began to really enjoy myself. The room was set up full of Aldi products show casing the vast range of products that were to be included in the upcoming Mother and baby event and I was surprised. As my local store isn’t that big, the range of products available is quite limited so I hadn’t actually realised that Aldi sold such products. They even sell branded products such as baby food from Heinz (Rusks, Porridge Oats and Baby Juice) and Tommee Tippee products (baby bottles and dummies).
We were introduced to Katie who is the main buyer for the baby products Aldi sells. She told us a bit about herself and told us how Aldi chooses products to include in their events. It was a real eye opener learning from experienced Mums. As a first time Mum, I know what works well for us and suits our lifestyle (so far) but having listened to others, it gave me confidence to try other products.
Aldi have a big box nappy event coming to stores at the end of April which seems like a fantastic idea. You can currently buy their nappies in the packets but having big boxes of nappies (each box contains 82 nappies) at a great price is really appealing, especially if like a lot of Mums you like to do one big monthly shop. These events only happen a few times a year so it’s definitely wise to get down to your local store and stock up!
We had a discussion about what we, as Mums, would like to see on the shelves of Aldi stores and it was great to engage with a supermarket who were taking their customer feedback seriously. Interestingly, we heard that their looking to introduce a wetness indicator on their newborn nappies along with an umbilical cord cut out which would make their Mamia newborn nappies a real contender in any nappy awards.
There’s a Mother and Baby event coming up soon at the end of May and it’s no surprise that they’re expecting a sell out event. We had an exclusive preview of some of the baby items they will be selling and from what I saw, it’s going to be a great event. I’ll be particularly interested in the weaning products, teething rings and baby books.
The event wrapped up with an insight in to the rapidly changing world of blogging from guest speaker Ryan. I learnt so much. If there’s nothing Ryan doesn’t know about blogging or social media then its really not worth knowing! I took lots of notes and will be implementing various little tips in my blogging from now on.
Thank you Aldi for a great afternoon, it was a fantastic experience for me and it was great to meet Ryan and my fellow Mummy bloggers. I’ll definitely be visiting my local store soon.
