Meal Planning Monday 12.03.2012

This week’s menu has been created with simplicity in mind..

We’re using up stuff that we have in and adding fresh ingredients to make them stretch a bit further. Except Tuesday, which is a bit of a treat as we’ve bought supermarket made in store pizza’s. I LOVE pizza, especially ham and pineapple or pepperoni. Yum! The calories won’t be counted on Tuesday evening but I promise  I will behave better than last Tuesday.

I’ve still got a meal to ‘create’ on Thursday as I’m eating alone but there’s a good chance it’ll involve pasta with veg!

Does anyone actually stick to what they say they are going to eat? We usually do. Sometimes the meal may change depending on what kind of day we’ve had but usually is a meal from the list.

We were talking about meal planning at our weight loss class recently and it surprises me how many people don’t plan their weekly meals. I couldn’t be doing with going to the cupboards each night thinking of something to make for dinner. How do you go to the supermarket and shop? Do you think people just chuck in random items and hope they’ll make a meal? For me, taking 20 minutes on a Sunday morning to plan out the week helps me stay focused, on track with the diet and I love feeling organised. I hate the not knowing. Think I have a touch of OCD about it all to be honest, but if it helps me stay on track and helps the financials then I’m all for it!

I often wonder about life before meal planning too, like when I was teaching. I used to just pick things I fancied without really thinking about putting together a meal. The only thing is that being a creature of habit I tended to put a lot of staple things in like pasta, tuna, chicken etc. so didn’t have to do too many trips to the shops. But since starting meal planning as part of my weight loss it has made a huge difference. I love it! Still insanely jealous of your chalkboard btw…!

This is my first week joining in and I’m quite excited, lovely little community going on. Lauren (Bigeejit) just pointed out that you have a chalkboard, me too (not copying!) but you must have one of those chalkpens? Need to get myself one!

I have totally NOT stuck to what I said last week. But it was a bad week generally. Maybe this week will be better… I have always planned roughly what we’ll eat, otherwise I’d buy half the supermarket and most of that would be naughty stuff! x
