Sew many ideas…

It appears I have my sewing mojo back. It helps that all my sewing stuff is now back downstairs again so I can see it every time I’m in the dining room and I’ve got so many ideas whirling round my head that I’m saving loads of ideas on my laptop for when I get chance to sit down and sew.

Looking back on 2011 I did very little sewing. I started my sunkissed quilt and then put it away again because I got so disheartened when my squares didn’t match up and that was it. So, as part of my entry into Resolved to Sew 2012 (where VeryBerry Handmade are giving away a ton of fabric loveliness) I’m pledging to get my sew on during 2012 and let you in on what kind of things I want to sew up this year.

First of all, I want to finish my bathroom storage buckets. I’ve bought some gorgeous Storeyboek fabric from the States and I’m going to make 4 or 5 of these little beauties…

I’m just waiting on some interfacing so I can stitch them all up and then they’ll be sitting pretty in my bathroom housing all the bits you don’t want other people to see!

I’m also going to complete my sunkissed quilt. It’s needs quilting and binding and i’m determined to get it complete this year. It’s so pretty and I love the designs on the fabric, very girly and just up my street.

I’m also on a mission to get through my stash of FQs that I have. During 201o I had a bit of a splurge on FQs (there’s a lot of dots and spots, owls and Cath Kidston) and although I did use up a lot of them for Christmas pressies I haven’t made much else since.

I would love to make a new pair of curtains for my dining room and make matching seat pads for our dining chairs. At the moment we have chocolate brown curtains but I really want to inject a lot more colour into my home this year. I’m thinking a flowery bright CK fabric but will have to save the pennies for these.

I also want to make a blind for my kitchen window. We still haven’t finished the kitchen so will try and get that finished off in the next few months. I’ve never made a blind but I’ve seen a few diy kits you can buy so might try it out. I’m thinking a red and white polka dot blind in the kitchen will look very pretty and will match my memo board that I made over Christmas.

This year I’d also like to get ahead and make some gifts for family and friends. I love handmade gifts and think they’re more special than a shop bought gift. I’m thinking little bags, purses and cushions, maybe one or two smaller lap quilts and maybe even start a larger quilt for my bedroom.

I’d also like to make myself a thread catcher. I saw one of these on J’s blog that I adored so I’d like to make one for myself and possibly one for my Mom (Mother’s Day pressie maybe?)

Not sure if this idea will feature in 2012 but I’d love to make some bits for a Nursery. Now I’m not saying in any way that there is news, sadly there isn’t but at some point over the next few years I’d love to make some handmade nursery decor. I’m thinking cot bumpers, mobiles, storage baskets, pretty handstitched pictures for the walls. Have a look here and tell me it’s not adorable? Cute eh!

So that’s pretty much what I’d like to do sewing wise this year. I have a lot to learn. My finishing technique is shocking and will certainly be asking my Mom to help me perfect it. But it’s all good fun and I’m enjoying it. {sig}

    Thanks for blogging on the theme – that’s tremendous! Good luck with all your sewing projects this year… funny, I saw a thread catcher the other day and thought ‘must make one of those’ – so much better than the floor!
