Handmade Monday 09.04.2012

I’ve been doing a bit of cross stitch recently as I seem to have misplaced the ‘get out the sewing machine’ mojo. I really enjoy cross stitch as it can be picked up pretty much anywhere and doesn’t require too much equipment. I can also make quite a bit of progress on the aida in a spare half an hour. It usually takes me a good half an hour to get everything out and ready when I’m using the sewing machine. I guess that’s the downside to sewing in your dining room!

I’ve managed to complete my Union Jack Forever Friends cross stitch this weekend and I’m really pleased with it. It’s very cute and does actually look like a Forever Friend bear. Some of the cross stitch patterns I’ve seen of late, in my opinion, don’t look like the bears I’ve grown to love and cherish so I’m pleased how this one has come out.

I’m not sure what I’m going to do with him yet, I might mount him in a Jubilee inspired cushion with some Makower fabrics I’ve bought. I do worry sometimes that us Brits aren’t allowed to be patriotic so if we can’t celebrate the Great in Great Britain this year with the Queen’s Jubilee and the Olympics I’m not sure when we can! Once I’ve decided what to do with him i’ll be sure to let you see it.

This post links up really well to Handmade Monday which showcases a snippet of the wealth of creative talent in the blogosphere. I’m in awe of the amazing handmade products that people make and it really makes me want to get all my sewing stuff out (sorry hubby) and make something wonderful!

I’m getting into the Jubilee spirit and love the patriotic fabrics that are on sale. I might have bought a couple of Makower FQ’s to go with this cross stitch but shhh don’t tell anyone!

Summer is here…

What a fantastic weekend! The weather was amazing, clear sunny days full of sunshine with a light breeze. I spent the weekend full of plans with family.

On Saturday I was lucky enough to win a couple of tickets to attend the Sewing for Pleasure and Hobbycraft Show at the NEC courtesy of Making Magazine. Both Mom and I love the show so put the tickets to good use and went along. We both had a budget to stick to so couldn’t spend vast amounts but enjoyed looking round the hundreds of stalls showcasing fabrics, sewing machines, cross stitch, embroidery kits and paper crafts, picking up ideas and planning future makes.

I bought a couple of bits including some beautiful red polka dot fabric, some cute aqua flowery fabric, a handful of gorgeous ribbons (courtesy of my Mom, thanks Mom), some Owl charms and a Prima goody bag. I was looking out for some Portobello Road paper craft stuff but didn’t see much on offer at all.

After the show, I caught the train back to my in-laws where I enjoyed spending time with my hubby’s family and we enjoyed the first barbeque of the year. I didn’t point the food on Saturday night but did track it so I know exactly what I had. Nothing beats a proper sausage or burger cooked on the barbeque. The low fat ones are awful compared to proper ‘full fat’ sausages.

As the good weather was set to continue into Sunday, hubby and I decided to take the dog over Cannock Chase. It’s a beautiful area to walk through so we grabbed the OS map and planned a route. It also doubled up as a practice route for hubby’s school Duke of Edinburgh walks.

Here are a couple of pictures which actually don’t do the landscape any justice. It was beautiful over there.

We clocked up 14 kilometres which is over 8.6 mile so that will definitely help offset the barbeque food. After we had completed the walk, we called in at my Sisters house on the way home and was treated to Sunday dinner and spent a couple of hours with my nephew which was great. I’m pleased that I was on track completely yesterday. All food and drink tracked and pointed in my WW journal so I’m back on track and it feels good.

Thank you for all your lovely comments on my last post, I was feeling really down and I really do believe that fatty foods do have additives in them that make you crave it more once your body has had the initial hit. I appreciate every single comment you let me so thank you very much.

Fabric destash – Part 1

The time has come to admit defeat. {Gulp!} I have far too much fabric for my own good and (some of) it needs to go. I’m selling off a few bits and pieces to make some cash for my new found love of clothes shopping. It’s not yet getting out of hand but I do need to make some space and get my fabric stash in order.

First up, I have two brand new Sunkissed by Sweetwater for Moda charm packs to sell. (40 5″ squares) I’d love £8 each for them and i’ll post them for free to anywhere in the UK. SOLD SUBJECT TO PAYMENT

If you’d like to buy one please leave me a comment/tweet me @mrsshilts

Next up is the gorgeous ‘It’s a Hoot’ by Momo Brand New (never unrolled) Jelly Roll ((20) 2 1/2″ x 44″ fabric strips) and I’d love £18 for it. Postage £1.50 SOLD SUBJECT TO PAYMENT

If you’d like to buy this gorgeous bundle of beautiful fabrics, leave me a comment/tweet me @mrsshilts – first come first served I’m afraid!
Payments via Paypal only and i’ll post as soon as payments are cleared..

There’s more where that came from too! I have lots more to look through and will update this page over the weekend..
Thanks

Happy Valentines..

Following my recent addiction to Pinterest, I’ve stumbled across a couple of projects which I have loved. So much so, that I’ve wanted to give them a go whilst I’ve been thinking about them.

First up is a gorgeous Valentines Heart Cushion which I found here.  I’ve recreated it using my favourite Denyse Schmidt fabrics and added an embroidered bit of text to set the mood.

Second up is a very cute little cross stitch that I made up for my hubby’s valentines gift. He’s seen it in progress and again earlier once I’d framed it, I think he likes it but then he’s not got much choice as I’d much rather make something over buying his something naff he’ll store in the cupboard!

Wishing you all a very happy Valentines day whatever you get up to!
