Meal Planning Monday 28.11.2011

I’m attempting to stay on track this week in order to curb the expected weight gain which may follow after next weekend so what’s in store for dinner this week..

Monday – Zumba – Sausage and Mash Pie (WW recipe)
Tuesday – WW/Hubby out – WW Pizza and salad
Wednesday – Strike day – Glazed chicken & winter mash (WW recipe)
Thursday – Day off – Hubby to fend for himself as I’ll probably be eating at my Sisters
Friday – Milton Jones – Quick microwave meal (i.e lasagne & salad)
Saturday – WW Christmas Meal (Prawn Cocktail / Festive Combo / Rocky Horror Dessert)
Sunday – Family Pre-Christmas Get Together (Melon / Beef & Trimmings / Ice Cream)

Breakfast will be porridge or breakfast muffins and jam.
Lunch will be soup, WW friendly crisps and fruit. I’ll be upping my fluid intake this week too as seem to have struggled with that last week.

Wish me luck

Best laid plans and all that…

You know when you plan a week in your head and then in reality it never actually goes to plan? Yep, i’ve had one of those weeks so far.

So I went to the gym on Wednesday night and did some cardio as planned. I was impressed with myself for going as I felt like death but managed to do just short of an hours cardio including running on the treadmill, I’m trying to push myself to run more because I hate it and just can’t run at all. I managed to do three minutes running then intervals of walking, running, etc. I did that for 20 minutes so was fairly sweaty after that.  Thursday night mainly involved watching telly and avoiding the kitchen as I was trying not to use my weeklies knowing what the weekend had in store.

On Friday night, hubby and I went to the Frankfurt Christmas Market in Birmingham City Centre. It was a planned event and a load of hubby’s work mates were out too. They had dubbed the night ‘silly hat night’. I went looking like this..

Hubby and his mates went looking like this….

As you can see, there were russian hats, traffic cones, turkeys, girly pigtails, aussie hats and more..

I knew we’d be eating out so I had 13 daily points plus all my weeklies to use up. I managed to scoff one and a half german sausage hot dogs with ketchup, one mug of hot cherry wine, a hot chocolate, a stick of grapes covered in white chocolate and a small cone of chips on the way home. I’m sure all my weeklies would have covered it but the scales this morning say otherwise!

Yesterday I went to a friends 50th Birthday party but nominated myself driver so I could stick within my points. I managed to save points for a couple of mini sausage rolls from the buffet but thats all I had so didn’t do too badly there.

Yesterday lunchtime, hubby and I were given a couple of tickets to the Good Food Show as the in-laws couldn’t use them so we took advantage of what would have been a lazy Sunday and drove over to the NEC. We went last year and wasn’t overly impressed but thought we’d give it another go as you can’t look a gift horse in the mouth. We got there early and had a browse around. I saw Holly Bell from the Great British Bake Off fame and we saw Paul Rankin who was happily signing autographs. I also spotted a couple of people from Masterchef but I’m not sure who they are, I just ‘know’ their faces!  The freebies on offer this year seemed a lot more fruitful. Hubby enjoyed sampling various cheeses and meats whilst I was behaving myself and had a free coffee, a sample of chippatti and a small cube of gooey fudge ha ha! We were given free cartons of juice (cranberry and grape juice) and we also sampled some Salmon from The Saucy Fish Co. I’ve never tried Salmon before but I was pleasantly suprised. I tried it with a chilli, lime and ginger sauce and was that impressed we bought a couple of packs they had on offer for later in the month.

So on the food front I’m not having the best week but saying that I earnt 8 activity points on Friday walking around the Christmas market and have managed to earn 7 activity points so far from walking around the NEC and over the park with woofer. I’m planning on going to Zumba tomorrow night and then we’ll see what happens at weigh in on Tuesday night.

This week should be an interesting week. I’ve got ‘the’ hospital appointment on Thursday and then a busy weekend ahead. We’re off to see Milton Jones on Friday night, having a not-so-weight-watcher-friendly 3 course Christmas meal with the fab girls and fellas from my WW group and our annual family pre-Christmas get together on Sunday which includes a yummy 5 course meal and plenty of booze! So not expecting huge things on the scales the following week. If I put on, i’ll get it off so I’m not too worried!

What are your pre-Christmas plans? Are you enjoying yourself or resisting the naughtiness?

Fuff Finale

It’s the final week of FUFF and time to look back over the last 10 weeks to see how I’ve done.

So, what were my initial goals;
1. To lose at least 1.5lb per week (15lb in total)
2. Walk Mikey every night without fail (even if it is just around the block and for at least 10 minutes)
3. Get on Wii Zumba at least twice a week (one weekend day and one weekday evening)
4.  Try out a new low fat recipe for dinner at least once every two weeks
5. Drink at least 2 litres of water/squash per day

At week 5 we were able to amend the goals if we wanted to and change them to suit our current situation. I chose to amend some of my goals to more realistic achievable ones which were:

Amended goals…
1. Lose at least 1lb per week
2. Walk Mikey every night
3. Get on the wii as often as possible
4. Try out a new low fat recipe for dinner at least once every two weeks
5. Drink at least 2 litres of water/squash per day

The results….
1. SUCCESS – I have lost 12.5lb in the last 10 weeks which is pretty fab
2. FAILED – I haven’t managed to take the dog out every night (poor woofer) but sometimes I just don’t get time to fit everything in. We do make sure we take him out at least once a day but I must try harder!
3. FAILED – I’ve probably managed to get on the wii once a week (twice at most) but there have been times when I could of got on it instead of doing something else.
4. SUCCESS – I’ve managed to cook quite a number of new meals in the past 10 weeks and I’ve discovered chilli meatballs (recipe to follow) which has become my absolute favourite. It is so filling and very yummy.
5. SUCCESS – I think i’ve literally drunk gallons over the last 10 weeks. It definitely helps me stay hydrated and should continue to help my weight loss.

3 out of 5 isn’t bad eh? How did you do? Well done to all who took part in Fuff, it’s been a fab challenge and has defintely helped with the weightloss.

Week 46: weigh in update

I am so chuffed with the weigh in this week because I lost 2.5lb. I’ve had a good week so was secretly hoping I’d have lost a decent amount this week. I started week 46 off with a trip to the gym so am hoping to replicate the same for the week ahead. I’ve made good choices this week and made some fab meals. I ate about 18 of my weeklies because I treated myself to a bag of jelly beans and some chocolate at the weekend so its good that I can still have those treats and lose weight. I have also done less exercise than a normal week but am conscious that I will need to be careful this week that not exercising as much in the previous might have a negative effect this week. I’m hoping to get to the gym tomorrow, do wii zumba on Thursday, day of exercise rest on Friday which also co-incides with a trip to the German market in Birmingham city centre on Friday night, walking and wii zumba on Saturday, regular walk over Sandwell Valley on Sunday and Zumba class on Monday. Hoping it will all pay off on the scales next Tuesday.

We’ve been told a bit about the new update to the WW plan that is launching properly in January. They’re introducing the ‘Filling and Healthy’ plan which means you can eat anything thats zero propoints and low in points (or highlighted green in the WW books) without counting until you’re satisfied. I’m not sure how I feel about this to be honest. I’m not very good at knowing when I’m full up so I might stick to counting for a bit and then move onto the F&H plan in the new year. Also, those on 29 pp a day have the option to flex up and down their points. Again, this doesn’t really affect me because i’m on 37 daily points so I’m happy sticking to these so I can ensure I get in my daily curly wurly.

Here’s to one final week before ‘the’ big appointment (if it doesnt get cancelled again!) so am hoping for it to be a good one

Preparing for Christmas…

This weekend has been lovely. It’s been chilled, doing what I want to do and when I want to do it. I love weekends like this.

Friday night I made up a couple of Christmas decoration (Ebay) orders and wrote out all our Christmas cards. I’ve still got some to write out but at least all the family ones are done and ready to give out at our Family Pre-Christmas get together in a couple of weekends time.

Saturday has got to be my most productive day this year. I began by gathering my ingredients for my first ever Mary Berry Christmas cake. I cheated by buying the ingredients all weighed out (Tesco’s) which is relatively stress free. All went well until I realised moments after placing the tin into the oven that I had forgotten to add the mixed spice to the mixture! How stupid? So, I rescued it by tipping the whole lot back into a bowl, sieving the mix in and giving it a good stir. Back in the oven it went for 4 and a half hours but look how it turned out.

It smells amazing and looks like a proper christmas cake. Just need to keep it wrapped up until I’m ready to decorate it then it’ll be done. I don’t usually eat Christmas cake but this year I may make an exception!

To carry on with my baking efforts, I made some yummy biscuits that Lauren had given me the recipe for. They are absolutely scrummy but at 3 Propoints a biscuit I won’t be eating many of them. I’m thinking of making some as Christmas gifts so enjoyed the practice.

I then sat at the dining room table watching Elf and Mirace on 34th Street whilst wrapping all the Christmas pressies that we had bought. There are still some more to get and wrap but at least the majority is now done. I love being this prepared. I’m planning on enjoying the run up to Christmas and getting ahead makes me smile. I know, I am far too organised but I don’t have any kids to worry about (yet) so why not!

Today I went for my usual walk over Sandwell Valley with hubby and woofer. It was lovely again over there today. Foggy and cold, a sure sign that winter is just around the corner but it was so peaceful. We clocked up just over 4 miles so that should help with this weeks weigh in.

Hubby tried my biscuits and LOVED them so asked me to bake some more for his team at work. Of course, I obliged and here they are..

I haven’t worked out the Propoints value for these but I’m assuming they are equally as terrible considering the recipe I use comes to a total value of 105 Propoints per batch! Eeeeek!

Big news this weekend in WeightWatcher land. They’re making changes to the plan. From what I’ve read so far, you can either choose to count points on the Propoints plan or switch to the no-counting method of the Filling and Healthy plan. The Filling and Healthy plan is all about eating 0 propointed foods until you’re satisfied but there’s only one floor with that, how do I count my daily curly wurly? I don’t think i’ll be changing plans but we’ll find out more on Tuesday at class.

So thats my weekend, I’m getting ahead and I’m feeling good! Are you ahead for Christmas? Are you a late shopper or a savvy early bird?
