Notoriety

I got an email today to say that my Nostalgia quilt has been featured over on The Cotton Patch Blog.  How fantastic?

Thank you Liz for a wonderful blog post, i’m thrilled that you’ve chosen to feature my experience of making my first quilt. I’m definitely addicted now.

If you’ve got a spare five minutes why not head over to the Cotton Patch and discover what other fantastic fabrics and notions they have in stock perfect for your next quilting project.

Slicely does it..

Ouch..

I sliced the end of my finger this evening with my rotary blade. My initial thought was ‘ohh that hurt I wonder if I just grazed it or actually cut it’ and then I saw the blood. Eugh! I don’t do blood even if it’s my own. Ten minutes later and a temporary cotton wool pad and plaster tape effort later I’m back at the dining room table cutting the selvedges away from my jelly roll.

I’ve started quilt no.2 this evening which is the aforementioned Sunkissed jelly roll in the form of the Random Reflections quilt by KarriLyne. Go check out her stuff, she’s brilliant.  I’m really looking forward to making this quilt and will try not to make the same mistakes as I made in the Nostalgia quilt. I’m also hoping it won’t take me as long as my last quilt either. But now i’ve found this passion for quilting I don’t think i’m going to be stopped!

We have our nephew staying over this weekend. My sister and her hubby are finally decorating their bedroom… five years after moving in to their home (we’ve all been there!) so the little man is staying with us. So far so good. As I type he’s tucked up in his toddler bed with Uncle Sam (Fret not….its a plush Fireman Sam who he insists calling Uncle Sam..lol!) Tomorrow we’re hoping to take Mikey for a long walk with a bag full of stale bread to feed the ducks. Just hope the weather is nice to us.

So have a lovely weekend, stay safe and i’ll be no doubt posting more WIP piccies soon…. x

The one with the first stone loss…

How pleased am I to tell you that tonight I lost 2.5lb on the scales taking my weightloss to a total of 14lb?…

Enormously pleased…Woohoo!

This is what I received at weigh in tonight to celebrate..

After my mammoth meal out on Saturday night (Uncle’s 50th) I wasn’t sure whether I would get this little beauty tonight or not but I’m really pleased I have. Don’t worry it’s definitely not going to go to my head, I’ve got another 4 stone to lose before I can even begin to start about letting my hair down. I’m having my celebratorary segments of Dairy Milk (possibly the best chocolate in the world) and I’m planning the week ahead.

Tomorrow hubby and I are planning on going to Pizza Express for dinner and then Friday we collect our little nephew who will be staying the weekend. Meals have been planned and will be stuck too as the price for shopping these days is absolutely horrendous we can’t afford to let any of it go to waste. Plenty of exercise planned too including taking the woofer out and more dancing on the wii.

So week seven:2011 done: total loss 14lb, in my seventh week I’m going to increase the length of the walks I do with Mikey and increase the time I spend on the wii. Hope you’ve all had a good weigh-in and here’s to week eight:2011!

Nostalgia is complete…

it’s finished, I’ve managed to complete my first ever quilt.

Fancy a look?

Well even if you don’t, i’m so chuffed with it i’m going to show it off anyway!

and here is the back;

I was really excited to receive a comment from the designer of the original Sugar Pop N Change Quilt, Melissa so I think that inspired me on to get moving with the quilt and get it finished. I am so pleased with how it’s turned out as I mentioned before it’s my first quilt I’ve done using a jelly roll and followed a tutorial for (I did change the back  and stitched in the ditch for the quilting part) and considering I taught myself how to do it, it is pretty good. I’m even impressed with the binding. There are a couple of small errors but I don’t mind them too much. I’ll learn from those mistakes in the future.

I can’t wait to show it off to my Mom this evening at a family party, she’s been really looking forward to seeing the finished article and I think she’s going to like it. I’m keeping this one for me as a snuggle quilt when I’m chilly but have plenty of ideas for more that I might give away as gifts. Don’t forget Mothers Day is just around the corner!

I know i’ll be able to look back at this quilt with a smile and remember how my passion for quilting all started..

Positive Mental Attitude…

definitely has helped me this week. I’ve felt good pretty much all week about the diet and i’ve managed to take the dog out for his evening walk every night (even last night when it rained) and done extra on the wii which has helped with the weight loss this week. I lost 2.5lb so only need to lose 2.5lb for my first stone (Round 3)  to be gone forever!

My sister and I have set ourselves a mini-challenge as we roughly have lost the same amount of weight (My sis was in front by 0.5lb until I took over her and now i’m 0.5lb ahead!) but we both would LOVE to lose our first stone by the end of February. We have one February meeting left next week so we’re not sure if we can pull it off but we’ll have a good go at it thats for sure.

So week six:2011 done: total loss 11.5lb, in my seventh week I’m going to maintain and possible improve on the exercise I’ve done this week and resist and control myself on Saturday when we go to a Beefeater restaurant for my Uncles 50th Birthday celebrations.

Hope you’ve all had a good weigh-in and here’s to week seven:2011!
