Space needed…

Just a quick post to say i’m taking some time out as I’ve had some rather crap news and I’m not sure how to deal with it at the moment. Don’t want to sound too dramatic as it’s not life threatening but it will affect how I live my life and how my future pans out. I’m taking some time out to get my head together and weigh up a few things then i’m sure i’ll be right back with you!

In the meantime, I’ll be ploughing all my energies into my new website ‘Made by MrsShilts’ which will be launching this Friday 1st October…exciting!!!!

Thank you for your continued support

I’m in luck..

Tonight I should of played the Euromillions Lottery but I was too busy sewing I completely forgot. See, this week I’ve had a bit of luck. Imagine my surprise when on Monday morning, I got an email from the lovely people over at Interflora to say I had won a box of personalised cupcakes. Interflora are much more than gorgeous flowers these days, take a look here at what else they do. Anyway, as last week was National Cupcake Week they were celebrating by giving away some free cupcakes. All I had to do was say what I would have the cupcakes say and why. As I mentioned on Wednesday, I’m feeling quite useless about Mrs E’s condition at the moment and thought I’d try my luck to cheer her up. Well, I only went and won! I won a box of personalised cupcakes with my choice of message and so I asked them to say this ’Stay Strong & Keep Smiling’..

I’m really pleased to say that she loved them and they definately made her smile. So, thank you very much Interflora you made both our days.

My second bit of good luck was revealed to me on Tuesday when I found out i’d won a pair of tickets to go to the BBC Good Food Show Winter in November at the NEC. Hubby and I are absolutely thrilled as we’ve never been before but heard lots about it so are very pleased I’d won. I’m especially looking forward to seeing TV chef James Martin and hopefully Celebrity Masterchef winner Lisa Faulkner. We’re planning on going over on the train so we can eat, drink and be merry! Thanks to Deb over at Carrots and Kids and Good Food Show Winter.

So all I need to do now is buy a Lotto ticket and wait for my 6 lucky numbers to come out. If you don’t hear from me again i’ll be sunning myself in Cyprus or the Caribbean.

In honour of Mrs E…

My gorgeous friend Mrs E & her hubby…

This post in in honour of my very good friend Mrs E who I have known since I was at Primary School. We’re both the same age so have roughly known each other for about 23 years! Along the way we’ve been bestest friends, we’ve fallen out and for over 7 years we didn’t speak. Not because we’d had an argument or really annoyed each other just because life got in the way and we went our seperate ways. Back early 2008, through the wonder of Facebook, we got back in touch. She’d married Mr E, her high school sweetheart, they had a little boy T with another on the way and they lived just up the road from where I grew up. So we met up and it was as if we’d never been apart. Baby L came along in October 2008 via C-section and as soon as he was born she didn’t feel right. She couldn’t put her finger on it but she felt odd. Weeks later she still didn’t feel right and went to see the GP. He sent her for tests and they thought she had a cyst which grew whilst she was pregnant but assured her it would shrink now she’d had the baby. Weeks later she still didn’t feel right and began getting pains in her lower back and down the one side of her leg so went back to see the GP. She insisted on more tests and I am so proud of her for her perseverance. More test results came back. It was the news she had feared. It was cancer. We were all devastated. We couldn’t believe the GPs had missed it and said it was ‘just a cyst’! She was referred to have invasive scans and tests down in London (we live in the Midlands) but bravely took on the challenge and looked it in the eye..

Turns out she has a very rare form of cancer called Neuroblastoma which is rarely seen in adults. The specialists believe she’s had the tumour since she was a little girl and its been slowly growing since then. The tumour was shown on an MRI scan to be the size of a honeydew melon hence why she was in so much discomfort and pain following Baby L’s birth. The tumour is located behind her intestines and liver but in front of her spine making it incredibly difficult to reach. She’s battled rounds of chemo and radiotherapy in London, lost all her hair and recently underwent a 9 hour operation to try and remove it. Unfortunately there were complications and she lost 10 pints of blood resulting in her ending up in coma and the surgeons not being able to remove the tumour. We are all gutted and so upset. Mrs E, although being terrified of what the future holds now, is being so brave and courageous. She smiles every day and to me is the most amazing, inspirational lady who is not letting her illness get in her way.

This post is for this weeks The Gallery but is also in recognition of Macmillan Cancer Support who are holding the worlds biggest coffee morning this Friday 24th September. Please please find your local event and support them. They are worth every penny and help those like Mrs E in their fight against Cancer.

I heart this fabric!

After the non-arrival of last months Secretpost club parcel, I was hoping this months parcel would make up for it. And it did.

I received a gorgeous fat quarter of this loveable owly fabric from Gigi over Mumsrock and I love it. I’ve planning to make something for me in it, not sure what yet but whatever it will be it’ll be lovely.

Thank you Gigi
