Pruned..

Our garden is quite small and isn’t so much a garden but several concrete slabs with pebble borders. When we first moved in the garden was full of crap from the house that the previous owners had left and it was full of weeds. When we first dug the borders up we even found potatoes, didn’t fancy eating them though. So, in preparation for our summer of sun (ahem!) with bbqs and world cup footy, I embarked on a bank holiday garden tidy up. Our next door neighbours have a lovely wild garden which has grown all up their fence and has spread down onto our side. We don’t mind too much as it looks lovely but it was getting a bit wild. Armed with a pair of kitchen scissors (we don’t own a pair secertairs or whatever they’re called) off I hacked and pruned the wild ivy, mint and other green shrubbery to within an inch of its life. It looks good though and we’ve filled the green stuff wheely bin for the first time ever!

Inspired by how nice the garden looks, we’ve ordered a brand new gas powered bbq and some sun loungers. Tomorrow we’re going to invest in some solar lights for the borders and a few more planters to grow some more seeds in. I’m also on the hunt for a red/orange stripey tablecloth to match our seatpads and some candle holders to keep the pesky insects away. I do envy all these people with gorgeous green and flowery gardens but I think ours will do us just fine at the moment. Bring on the Summer!

Photographs galore…

So we all love taking photographs don’t we? Yep, unless they are of ourselves of course… Well whilst having a nosey at another couple of blogs, i’ve stumbled across blipfoto. The concept is to take a photo a day and I think this is a brilliant idea. So, lo and behold I’ve jumped on yet another bandwagon and have taken a photo to start my blipfoto memoirs…

ohhhh look what I’ve got..

The very lovely Mandy has given me a blog award!
Thanks Mandy x

When I first set up my blog I never imagined for one second that anyone would ever read it. I thought it would be a place other than facebook and twitter that i could really say whats on my mind without all the questions and concerns! So I am pleased as punch that Mandy has given me this award because even though the road behind me has been a rocky one, i’m chuffed that the road ahead looks quite good and I am a very lucky girly.

Well, conditions of the award are as follows….

1. Get really excited that you got the coolest award ever! CHECK!
2. Choose one of the following options of accepting the Oh My Blog! award:
(a) Get really drunk and blog for 15 minutes straight, or for as long as you can focus. I’m far too sensible to do this (unfortunately!)
(b) Write about your most embarrassing moment. There have been quite a few…see below…
(c) Write a “soundtrack of your childhood” post.. boybands!!
(d) Make your next blog a ‘vlog’/video blog where you’re basically talking to the camera about whatever..Maybe in the future…
(e) Take a picture of yourself first thing in the morning, before you do anything else (hair, make up, etc) and post it. The world is definately NOT ready to see MrsShilts first thing, I reserve this priviledge to Mr Shilts and my bathroom mirror!!
3. Pass the award onto at least three, but preferably more, awesome bloggers and let them know… Read on…

My most embarrassing moment - well there have been a few that I can recall and they make me giggle looking back so i’ll share a couple with you ..
1) Going to the opticians and been asked to “open wide” so I sat there with my mouth wide open and the optician was like ”No, your eyes Emma!”
2) One of my first ever intimate moments with a bloke who shall not be named many moons again and I went “Is that it?” ha ha (P.S for the record its not Mr Shilts!)
3) In an interview I was asked what my weaknesses are and whilst without being modest i couldnt think of many, I said “I’m a bit gullable!” D’oh! What was I thinking? Obviously I didn’t get the job…

Soundtrack of my childhoodWhen I was younger I was totally in love with Mark Owen from Take That and Brian Littrell from Backstreet Boys. I was very lucky to go and see both boybands in concert and my bedroom was covered in posters from magazines such as Smash Hits, Look In and Just 17.  Imagine my delight after all these years when Take That got back together and announced they were doing another tour. I was made up! This time around though, I do rather fancy Gary Barlow…swoon!!!

I’ve dug this photo out from a few weekends back which is as good as it’ll get to MrsShilts being seen ‘au naturel’, this is me with my nephew Kye on a raining Saturday morning in my tent having a cuddle to get warm.

Finally, I need to nominate at least 3 bloggers whose blogs inspire me and make me want to do more with my life..
Apart from Mandy‘s, Linz’s and Gemma’s, all of which I follow on a daily basis (and who already have a blog award) i’d like to nominate the following…

1) Alice – A Little Less of Alice - this little lady has an amazing weightloss story and a very bright future ahead of her!
2) Bryher’s Blog - another very inspirational weightloss story, Bryher is living proof that it can be done..
3) Heather – Notes from Lapland - nothing to do with weightloss, Heather is an expat living near Lapland and is the chief of Secretpostclub

Enjoy!

The Gallery (1)

I’m really enjoying my journey around various blogs at the moment and have come across a concept in a blog that I really like…it’s called The Gallery. Each week over at Sticky Fingers, a theme is posted and bloggers all over the world find/take a photograph that sums up that theme. This week the theme is self portrait. Ok, so I pick my weeks to join don’t I? Well here is my effort….

I actually really like this picture! I don’t like many but I think it sums up my recent achievements quite well. For the past couple of years as some of you know, I’ve been studying on a CIPD postgraduate diploma course at Uni as a part-time student whilst working a full 37 hours per week. It hasn’t been easy at all but after 2 and a half long years I’ve completed my studies and in October last year I graduated with my Postgrad Diploma followed by gaining Chartered status with the CIPD this March.  I think the smile on my face sums it all up. I’m smiling, I’m happy and I’m a double-graduate! All my hard work, effort and stress paid off and it was all worth it, although i’m never ever going back to University..enough is enough! I’m very proud ..even if I do say so myself

Confession time…

Oops! After rushing round like a maniac this morning to make sure hubby had an ironed shirt for work, I completely forgot to turn the iron off and left it on all day! I could of burnt the house down…I’m thinking I need to get more organised and get stuff done the night before. So with this in mind, i’m off on a course tomorrow in London and need to be at the train station for 7am (ouch!) so I best get my bum into the kitchen to sort hubby’s lunch out and go upstairs to iron a couple of shirts for us tomorrow (I can’t iron more than 2 items at a time else I get bored…..i hate ironing with a passion!) and get my tired self to bed! Night
